I’m Bored, Let’s Cook

I am bored. I know I’m not the only one who is looking forward to getting back to ‘normal’ activities. Although I have enjoyed most of the time at home and getting together in smaller groups or exploring the meaning of life through Zoom chats, I am ready to reconnect with crazy busy again. Anyone else?

During this time at home, I’ve had too much time to observe myself and my Parkinson’s symptoms.  Are my symptoms getting worse? Is it due to the heat? Or, am I just hyper-focused on it since I have the time? At least I have something to talk to the doctor about… via Zoom.

One very bright spot in my new social distance world, is cooking for friends. The New York Times replaced its Travel section with a new Home section. Makes sense. I love reading the Sunday paper and can spend hours on Sunday exploring the Wedding section and Book Review. The new Home section provides five recipes each week. I’ve taken to cutting out a few of them and making them for my quarantine buddies.

One of my couple friends is remodeling their home and living in a casita without a full kitchen. I cook for them every other week. Well, actually, I pick one of those new recipes and we work together to make the meal. Picking a recipe isn’t easy. One of us is lactose intolerant and one is gluten-free.  Yikes. Yet, we’ve had so much fun exploring new meals, new ingredients, and new wines. The act of working together to make dinner has brought us closer as friends and brought joy to my life.  It is truly something to look forward to. We have also become geeks for astronomy. We watch the International Space Station soar across the sky at night. Lately, we’ve been able to see the NEOWISE comet using our binoculars and two of Jupiter’s moons.

So, there have been a few bright spots in this whole social distancing experiment.  Stars, friends and good food.  I’m still bored, though. You?

I’d like to hear from you.  Please leave comments below.

I started a podcast – The Parkinson’s Experience. You can listen from my blogs page –  https://17branches.org/blogs/.  Or, you can search for the title on any of the podcast apps on your mobile phone, tablet or on Alexa. The first topic is on PD Medications and is worth listening and learning. Don’t forget to Subscribe to the podcast so you don’t miss an episode.

  1. You are bored, let’s eat!

It is great to be on the receiving end of your culinary masterpieces. Keep clipping those recipes! Thanks for a fabulous post!

  2. I want to be your quarantine buddy! I am neither lactose intolerant nor gluten-free…I’m easy!!

Short of that, could you share the recipes. I could only read a few of the titles, but I would love to have Sheet Pan Chicken, Scarlett’s Tuna, and Roasted Salmon with Sesame seeds (and anything else that you think was great!

Thanks for a timely interesting blog.
